Project Highlights
- Scope: 66 kV overhead line (turnkey EPC) from 230 kV Pathein (Kan Kone) Main Substation
- Purpose: Split Myat To (Pathein+Myaungmya) feeder to create a dedicated 66 kV Myaungmya feeder, relieving load on Kan Kone
- Location: Pathein Township, Ayeyarwady Region (ESE)
- Timeline: 180 days / 1,440 hours
- Impact: Stronger backbone for electricity distribution in Myanmar across Pathein and surrounding areas
Pathein 66 kV Line Project — Why This Upgrade Matters
The Pathein 66 kV line project was executed to ease loading at the 230 kV Kan Kone Main Substation and improve reliability to Pathein and neighboring townships. By separating the combined Myat To (Pathein + Myaungmya) feeder into a dedicated 66 kV Myaungmya feeder, the network gains:
- Better voltage stability at peak demand,
- Fewer feeder trips and restoration delays,
- Additional capacity headroom for new customers and public facilities.
Planning, Schedule, and Risk Controls (180 Days)
To finish the Pathein 66 kV line project within 180 days (1,440 hours), the contractor formed a multidisciplinary team—planning, civil, electrical, safety—and staged long-lead components in advance. The schedule was mapped to monsoon windows with weather-aware sequencing to maintain the critical path.
Key measures included:
- Alignment surveys and structure spotting to meet 66 kV clearances,
- Right-of-way coordination and traffic management near public roads,
- Daily HSE toolbox talks and energized-network proximity procedures.
Turnkey Scope & Technical Works
Delivered under a full turnkey contract, the works covered end-to-end EPC:
- Survey & Design: route optimization, span and sag/tension calculations, earthing design, lightning performance, and insulation coordination.
- Civil Works: excavation, reinforced concrete foundations, earthing at structures, access track improvements, and drainage for delta soils.
- Line Erection: poles/towers, crossarms, insulators, hardware, conductor stringing with calibrated tension; sectioning plans for safe energization.
- Substation Interfaces: terminations at Kan Kone and the outgoing 66 kV bay to Myaungmya; protection coordination and relay settings.
- Testing & Commissioning: mechanical completion checks, IR tests, line patrolling, phasing/energization, and as-built documentation (drawings, test reports, material certificates).
All materials and workmanship complied with national and international quality standards, ensuring durable performance for electricity distribution in Myanmar.
Managing Monsoon & Logistics
Ayeyarwady delta terrain and the rainy season posed access and stability challenges. The site teams mitigated risks by re-sequencing foundations and stringing around weather events, using temporary access pads where needed, and coordinating deliveries to keep continuous work fronts active. Safety barricading and traffic controls were applied during work near public routes.
Results for Pathein & Neighboring Townships
The completed Pathein 66 kV line project delivers:
- Higher reliability and fewer interruptions for Pathein Township,
- Improved voltage profiles and reduced technical losses,
- Operational flexibility for ESE through a dedicated 66 kV feeder to Myaungmya,
- A sturdier regional backbone supporting commerce, services, and community facilities.
